Colleen J. Marx, Rev, BS; LMT:
Hello, I'm Colleen and I'm the owner of
Great Lakes Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Practitioners.
This year marks my 28th year in-business!
My interest in holistic and wellness practices began over 40 years ago when I took a few classes in reflexology, mediumship and Reiki.
I applied the information I garnered from being first a surgical
assistant and then a medical research practitioner at SUNY UB,
(1985-2004), to give me a fundamental understanding of biology, physiology and organic chemistry; I witnessed first-hand
how illness/injury or surgery impacts the physical-self,
and how the body's healing will develop scar tissue,
adhesions and myofascial dysfunction from DIS-EASE.
I expanded upon that physical-unit foundation by returning to school to receive my certification and licensure in massage therapy,
(which had been a field of interest to me for many years), and medical lymphatic drainage massage and adhesion reduction. I opened Great Lakes Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Practitioners in 1998 and never looked back! It is my passion and my life's commitment to asset others.
After 5 years in-practice I had a stable clientele base and left SUNY UB in July of 2004 to focus solely on doing massage, full-time, and I've happily never looked back!
With over a decade of experience in the massage field, I returned to school, (yet again), and in 2011. I received my second B.S. in
Alternative and Complimentary Therapies through SUNY. This last degree was more focused on wellness/homeostasis via a connection that addressed the entire mental/emotional/spiritual (energetic)
self and how it aligns, or doesn't, with various forms of trauma or healing-impinged dysfunction.
Ironically, in 1999 I lobbied Roswell Park Cancer Institute to set up a therapeutic massage/lymphatic drainage massage clinic within their site. The program was rejected as they thought massage might "contribute to matastasis of cancer cells," (there has never been any reliable documented data to uphold this theory). Fast-forward to 2023 and *I* became the local person that Roswell Park's Lymphatic Drainage clinic refers their patients to, (... because they do not do massage there on-site, instead they tell the patient how to massage themselves...). At this point in my career I'm unwilling to set-up a therapeutic site there and become an employee of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. But... Persevere in all things! I saw this necessity 25+ years ago!
In 2017 I continued on my "path of spiritual enlightenment" and received my divination ordination through Universal Life Church Monastery and The Infinity Foundation allowing me to legally serve as a Reverend within NYS and in 2020 I received my certification as a vetted, evidential Psychic-Medium through Santosha Holistic Center and began volunteering my time and energies to the WNY AIDS Family Services and parental bereavement groups and at Lily Dale, NY.
As you can see I'm passionate about massage and bodywork, spirituality and continuing my education on the earth-plane. When not engrossed in my work or advancing my education, I love being a Mom, by far the most valued and important role of my life. I enjoy networking with other like-minded individuals, writing, teaching, hosting events, spending time with my family, friends and my many sweet fur-babies.
I personally believe that I am here merely as a hollow vessel to be filled with knowledge and used to assist others in finding their own place of healing or wellness, on whatever level they are able to accept. My place is to support / elevate / promote their desire to move ever-upward, or respect their choice to stay where they currently find themselves on their life-path. I am not out to 'heal' or change anyone, as that needs to come from within, but certainly I can offer positive assistance.
If you'd like to schedule a massage or psychic-mediumship reading session, (private or group), please do ~ I am so looking forward to meeting you! :-)
